Background
Maryann Burrows graduated from Capilano University in Vancouver, B.C. with a Bachelor of Music Therapy in 2005 and is accredited through the Canadian Association for Music Therapy. During her senior years she was the recipient of the Jim Campbell Music Therapy Award for excellence in practicum training.
As well as providing individual music therapy Maryann is currently the music therapist at Nanaimo Travellers Lodge. As such she assesses and establishes treatment plans for individual seniors with dementia as well as plan programs involving groups.
Maryann is currently filling a temporary position as music therapist at Victoria Hospice. She will continue in that position until July 2009. Maryann has also worked in private practice with children with autism spectrum disorder.
Maryann's clinical experience includes practicum in palliative care and with teens with developmental disabilities. Her internship focused on geriatric care with placements at two facilities in Vancouver. During her internship she lead a variety of small and large groups for seniors with minimal supervision. Special projects included co-producing and co-directing a Christmas musical and co-directing the resident hand chime choir Christmas CD. In 2007 Maryann was a member of the organizing committee for the national Canadian Music Therapy Association conference.
